Teaching Abilities

 What is something you still wonder about in your teaching abilities?

Something that I still wonder about my teaching abilities is being able to meet my high students that are in GT. I am always trying to think of ways that I can expand the content to also meet them.

I also want to continue working on my firmness. I want to be sure that I am sticking to the expectation that I am setting and the consequences that are set when those expectation are not met.

    I also want to work on my firmness. One thing my CT told me is that your students can see right through you if you are not confident in the material that you teach, so when expectations are not met, it's important to set consequences.

    I think the more you teach the more confident you will feel to be firm with that. I have been telling my students- I want to make this a fun class but if they don't do their part there will be consequences

    I liked your ideas you shared with Caitlin and hopefully at seminar tonight we will gather other ideas. Being consistent and the use of the hierarchy will hopefully help you start to form your feelings about what you want your classroom to look like in the future.

    I had a similar issue when I was working with elementary students. My CT would take instruments away from students misusing them, but I always had trouble doing that because I felt like I was taking away their ability to participate. However, if I didn't take the instrument away, there was no consequence for misusing them. It is tough to feel like the 'bad guy'.
