1. What inspired you to be a teacher?
When I was younger, I frequently stated that I wanted to be like my teachers because I always looked up to them. When I started high school, I had a math teacher who treated every student as a unique individual who was important in ways other than her subject matter. She constantly stood up for the needs and desires of the students and made time during the day to make sure we were receiving any assistance we might need. After high school, I spent six years in law enforcement, but I truly wanted to work with younger children in some manner and give them a voice, like my math teacher did in high school.

2. What legacy do you hope to leave as an educator?
I hope that I am an educator that is remembered by students and staff as someone who always showed compassion towards her students. I would like to leave a mark on my students and peers to always be themselves and to be confident in who they are.

3. What actions and mindset will be needed during the unique setting of the 2025 school year?
A mindset that will be needed during the 2025 school year is to always remember that the next day can be better. Always ask questions when you have them -- There is no such thing as a dumb question. Show up each day with a smile on your face to help the students feel welcomed in the classroom.

  2. That you had a teacher who encouraged you to pursue the same career path is incredible. I will also be asking a lot of questions, as I believe that is one of the best ways to learn!

  3. I have a similar experience with my high school English teacher where she would treat us all as individuals and care for us and those students that are under valued and treated differently in our school and is someone I looked up to for this. She is one of the reasons I wanted to be a teacher so hearing your experience with your high school is great to see others impacts on students.

  4. The one thing to remember about being a teacher is you may never know the impact you have made on each life you touch each day. It could be the child you smile at on bus duty or the child you help find a lost item. It is so important to feel comfortable to ask questions. This is your time to learn as much as you can to build your confidence.
